Congratulations to Angela Amedio – The Most Viewed Instructor on SPINtv®

Posted by Spinning® on Jan 4th 2019

We shine a spotlight on Angela Amedio, the fierce Master Instructor out of Saratoga Springs, New York, for becoming the most viewed instructor on SPINtv® in 2018. See how she creates a classes for this exciting video platform.

SPINtv® features over a hundred exhilarating rides from 20 incredible Spinning® instructors. These instructors have been leading rides for years, honing their skills to produce real fitness results for students. But as 2018 comes to a close, we wanted to find out who was the most viewed instructor on the platform this year.

We’ve crunched the numbers, and the most viewed instructor in 2018 was Angela Amedio. The energetic MI out of Saratoga Springs, New York had four of the top ten most viewed rides on SPINtv®, including two Speed rides and two Strength classes. Her most popular class, titled “H.I.I.T.”, challenges riders with more and more work intervals while the time for each recovery break remains the same.

We reached out to Angela to congratulate her on her achievement and ask her what goes into creating an exceptional ride on this on-demand video platform:

Congrats on becoming the most viewed instructor on SPINtv®! What is involved in putting together and teaching a SPINtv® ride?

Putting together a ride for SPINtv® is just like creating a profile for any class that I teach. I think about the 4 Ps (population, purpose, plan, and progression) and start to make a "road map" of what the ride will feel like. I pick a Spinning® Energy Zone® and choose music and movements to match my intentions. SPINtv® has a broad audience, much like most Spinning®classes, so I try to pick music that appeals to a wide audience and movements that keep you entertained, working hard, and ending with BIG results.

What serves as your inspiration when you develop a ride for SPINtv®?

I try to put myself into the riders (clip-in) shoes! What motivates me? What music gets my pedals moving? What will get me to the top of the mountain? I try to educate, entertain, and empower riders (thanks to Master Instructor Betty Simmons for that quote!) to find their power, strength and that inner-voice that tells them, "You got this!" My inspiration also comes from people who ride with me on SPINtv® and reach out via social media to tell me how much they love it and the goals they have accomplished.

What type of music moves you the most?

While I like a variety of genres, I am a rock girl at heart. I seem to work a bit harder with a little Metallica in the background! I also love a good trance song with a consistent beat that allows me to get into the "zone" and out of my head. And to be totally honest, I have a lot of love for my girl Britney Spears. Some songs on SPINtv® also have powerful lyrics that I used to help motivate my riders and push them out of their comfort zone.

Is there anything that you do differently when teaching in person versus teaching for SPINtv®?

Oh yeah! When I am in my home studio, I tend to teach off the bike at some point in each class - which I can't do on SPINtv® (unless you want to invite me to your living room!). I also love to – when it’s appropriate – shout out folks by name if they are pushing their hardest, or need some motivation. I try to use eye contact, verbal cuing, and body language to convey that on SPINtv®. Besides that, the Angela you see on SPINtv® is the Angela you would see at my home studio.

How have you grown as an instructor based on your experiences as a SPINtv® Instructor?

Seeing and hearing yourself on film can be a bit scary at first, but I have learned from it in so many ways. I was able to see small things, like my right shoulder elevates when I climb. I also learned to speak more slowly and clearly so that everyone can catch my cues and most importantly, my corny jokes. It was also great getting feedback from Senior Advisor Josh Taylor. Getting to know him and the folks at Spinning® Headquarters in Venice, California was a fantastic experience.

What are some of your most memorable moments on the set for SPINtv®?

This is so silly, but we have a great guy named Daniel on set for hair and makeup (he is amazing), and I didn't quite realize how much goes into making a top knot bun for your hair that will be seen on film. It took us over any hour to get it right!

In all seriousness, I have unforgettable moments of being on the bike, hair and makeup done, the microphone on, and the cameras are rolling, and I was thinking to myself, "Wow, this is all happening because people like riding with me!" It is truly a dream come true to have the honor of teaching rides on SPINtv®, and I love and respect the entire film crew and the staff at Mad Dogg Athletics for inviting me to do so time and time again.
