Sarah Ness, being a Master Instructor brings joy into her life, where even a tough conversation about the reality of cancer can be overcome through the community that the Spinning® program nurtures. Sarah shares with us her story in the following Q&A Interview. Why did you start taking Spinning® classes?
I thought it would be a good cross-training workout to complement my running schedule.
What inspired you to become a Certified Spinning® Instructor and then a Master Instructor?
I wanted to share the passion I feel for the program with others and help them feel healthier and happier.
What do you love about teaching Spinning® classes?
I love that no matter how bad my day is or was once I finish teaching, I feel joy and I can take on anything in life. I love when the journey I create transports people to a place they feel a sense of well being.
What makes Spinning® such a great workout?
It is a workout for all fitness levels and age groups. It is a workout that has longevity. It is simple but powerful in the way it can change both your physical and mental health.
Share a memory from your experience as a teacher/coach/presenter that embodies the value of being a Certified Spinning® Instructor or Spinning Master Instructor?
There are many, but one that sticks with me is when I presented a video ride in support of the Ride to Conquer Cancer. One participant came to me after and told me the story of a relative who had just recently died of cancer. She thanked me for taking her on a journey that allowed her to release her grief and find some peace. We both had a good, healthy cry.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about becoming a Certified Spinning® Instructor?
Don’t expect to be perfect. Love who you are now and give yourself permission to grow while enjoying the journey. Let your personality shine through.
What’s one of your favorite motivational quotes?
"Accept responsibility for your life. Know that it is you who will get you where you want to go, no one else." -Les Brown
Do you have a hero in the Spinning® community, someone who deserves recognition for their leadership?
Elsa Storm is my hero because she projects strength, control and a wonderful sense of peace.
Is there anything about you that would surprise people?
I was never very athletic when I was young and still don’t consider myself as an athlete. And I love coaching my Spinning athletes!
What are your top three favorite songs to play during your Spinning® classes and why?
Tough one, I have so many and it depends on the emotion I want the ride to have. Here are five.
- Klangstrahler Project– Once upon a time in Germany
- Unstoppable – E.S. Pothumus
- Initi Zar - Yahel
- Horn Travel - Tikal
- Invincible – Two Steps From Hell
