Linda Howard was “hooked” as soon as she tried a Spinning® class. She was so impressed that she had it adopted into the fitness program at her club. She knew that she wanted to be a Master Instructor immediately, so was mentored until joining the team in 2003 and it's been a great ride ever since.
Why did you start taking Spinning® classes?
My good friend and former MI, Terri Levine, begged me to try it until I did.
What inspired you to become a Certified Spinning® Instructor and then a Master Instructor.
After I took my first class I was hooked and actually started my own Spinning program in the health club I worked in! I bought 11 Spinner® bikes had my Spinning Instructor Training with Terri as MI (Master Instructor) and started teaching after a couple of months striving to be the “best I could be”. I also had some mentoring from Barb Kane and set my sights to be an MI. The WSSC Conference in Miami, FL and live Continuing Education workshops are what inspired me to keep going!
What do you love about teaching Spinning® classes? The connection I can make to the riders. Knowing the impact of the inspiration, motivation and knowledge that I share touches someone and that person takes that and passes it on to someone else. It’s a cycle.
What are your top three favorite songs to play during your Spinning® classes and why?
Oh wow… that’s tough and constantly changing. I would say anything that’s powerful, energetic and also has lots of drums!!
What makes Spinning® such a great workout?
The “feeling” of achievement and accomplishment and the positive energy.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about becoming a Certified Spinning® Instructor?
Keep it simple without complication, have fun and follow through with the whole process. No skipping steps!
What’s one of your favorite motivational quotes?I don’t have a motivational quote that I’d call a favorite - but but I live by “The Four Agreements” (Don Miguel Ruiz)
- Be impeccable with your word
- Don’t take things personally
- Don’t make assumptions
- Always do your best
Do you have a hero in the Spinning® community, someone who deserves recognition for their leadership?
I have the utmost respect for all those that are truly passionate and humble within the Spinning Community.
Is there anything about you that would surprise people?
Hahaha! Love this one. My age, and I’m still not telling!
Linda also has professional certifications from Aerobic and Fitness Association of America, American Council on Exercise National Academy of Sports Medicine, Polestar and Balanced Body Pilates.
