About Mad Dogg Athletics

Mad Dogg Athletics, Inc. was founded in 1994 by John Baudhuin and Johnny G as a start-up company dedicated to developing the Spinning indoor cycling concept and the Spinner bike. When John and Johnny started manufacturing bikes in a garage back in 1991, little did they know that their cycling-based program would one day become a fitness phenomenon. As cyclists, the two were looking to build a better stationary bike for cycling training and developed the first Johnny G Spinner using the ergonomics and geometry of a racing bike. Not satisfied with the components found on traditional stationary bikes, Spinning was the first manufacturer to incorporate road bike geometry, clipless pedals, aero handlebars and racing saddles into its bikes.

Between 1991 and 1994, the two manufactured a total of approximately 150 stationary bikes that went into a few select studios and gyms in Los Angeles and New York. With John Baudhuin running the Company and Johnny G tirelessly promoting Spinning, the pair realized that their Spinning cycling program was quickly becoming a mainstream fitness program. In 1993, Rolling Stone Magazine named Spinning the "Hot" exercise and from there, the accolades kept rolling in.

Unable to keep up with the demand for the Spinner bikes they were manufacturing in their garage, John and Johnny licensed the manufacturing to Schwinn in 1994 to help commercialize the Spinning concept. In 1995, Mad Dogg Athletics launched the Spinning Instructor Certification Program to train the growing number of fitness professionals interested in teaching the Spinning program. Together with the Johnny G Spinner bikes manufactured by Schwinn, the Spinning Instructor Certification Program quickly became the standard for indoor cycling education and certification worldwide. Mad Dogg Athletics and Spinning worked with Schwinn Cycling until 2001 when Schwinn filed for bankruptcy and was sold to the makers of Bow Flex.

In 2001, Mad Dogg Athletics and Spinning joined forces with Star Trac and created its new line of Spinner bikes. The Company's early success with Star Trac led to the development of the aluminum Spinner NXT, the first bike of its kind and the revolutionary eSpinner, the world's first touch-screen indoor cycling bike to incorporate instructor-led coaching and heart rate training. Not satisfied with the Spinning program only being available in studios and clubs, the Company embarked on an ambitious program to make indoor cycling available to fitness enthusiasts in their homes. In 2003, the company launched its first Johnny G Spinner indoor cycling bike and video series focused on bringing the same expert coaching found in Authorized Spinning Facilities worldwide to riders that wanted the same experience at home. Busy professionals, athletes, cyclists, moms, dads and people that preferred exercising at home quickly embraced the Spinning program as a great way to stay in shape and lose weight. Realizing that there was an increasing demand for home-based Spinning bikes and programming, the Company began expanding its line of stationary bikes for the home and its library of videos and DVDs.

Today, Mad Dogg Athletics and the Spinning program are the worldwide leaders in indoor cycling bikes, programs and accessories for the commercial club and studio market as well as enthusiasts looking for a great workout at home.
