Never Lose Site of Your Value…It Lies Within

Have you ever felt too depleted or crumbled physically, emotionally or mentally stressed that you felt worthless? You may have experienced thoughts of not being good enough or not having the ability to be helpful to yourself and/or others at work and at home.  Perhaps you can recall a time when as a child, you questioned your parents , grandparents  and your teachers about whether or not something – an object  -  still had value?

This summer at the beach, the familiar sound of the ice cream truck was nearby. The music meant to all beach goers that cool a refreshing treat was only steps away.  A little boy walked up to the truck with the money his mom had given him in his pocket. When he pulled it out to make his purchase of ice cream he discovered that the $5 bill was crumpled and wet. At that moment he experienced some doubt and fear that he would be able to pay with this crumpled up currency.  With courage he asked the Ice Cream Man if the $5 bill was still good.

The response was a positive one, “sure it is”. The little boy was all smiles and handed over his money. The Ice Cream Man explained to him that even though the money was wet and wrinkled, it still had value.

Often times we are knocked down, crumpled or challenged by the circumstances of life. Maybe during these times, we are in a cycle of resentment or guilt, causing us to then feel weak, inadequate or downright worthless. During these points of references in our life we need to make sure that we do not shrink away in despair and see the glass half empty. It’s quite the opposite.  Just like the wet and wrinkled money, you still have value. You are strong and capable, and you can prevail over difficulties and rise up stronger. However you have to believe that and see the future through a larger lens.

Start by asking yourself what is holding you back from living a life of fulfillment? It is never too late to change how we think, feel and respond.  Dwelling on feelings of worthlessness can only block future blessings.  Stand your ground; and recognize that you have many special and unique attributes.  We are all creatures on this planet to serve a purpose.  We are all blessed with special talents and gifts to be shared. Use those gifts and let them flow into the world.

Everyone has limitless potential; it is the mind that sets limits.  Discard and eliminate negative, self-sabotaging thoughts, they can limit your progress. Remove any negative perceptions, and keep only what’s valuable.  Perceptions can be so strong (if we let them) that actually become beliefs.

By uncovering distorted perceptions and unhealthy chatter, “stinkin’ thinkin’ “, you can begin to see the power you have to make changes in a situation, relationship, pattern, career, virtually anything we want, by changing the way we perceive and think about it and recognizing our value.

If you talked to your friends the way you talked to yourself you would have no friends”
